I went to a new doctor who was recommended by my mother n law's friend. He is an interrogative doctor, and looks at the whole picture and attempts to fix it not just treat the symptoms. So I did a WHOLE work up of tests, blood, spit, and other things! ;) Anyways this is what they determined....
- The normal range of the Immune System is 60-25, mine was 5!!!!!
- Normal Range for Iron 39-145; mine was 168!!!
- Depressed Coritsol (the hormone that helps us have energy)
- Low Liver Function
- Only absorbing 25% of my food intake
- Gulten Intolerant, borderline Celiac Disease
- Have E Coli, Strep, Yeast, and other things in my gut
- Lean more on the Hyperthyroid Side
- Low Pancreatic Function
- Mild Colitis
Ok, so all that to say that my small intestines, Liver and pancreas is not working at a healthy level. Here's why it is important that your gut is working, in the gut is where majority of your immune system is produced, it is where we make neurotransmitters which promote brain and mood functioning, and it is where we absorb all the food we ingest. So it is actually a really important part of our body!
With mine not working, I have symptoms like depression, fatigue, insomnia (worse than before), bloating, constipation, diarrhea, having colds, UTI's and Sinus infections often, feeling nauseous, and frequent headaches. That's quite a lot of symptoms, that often times I never thought were related.
So the treatment plan was to change my diet and go Gluten Free! UGH! I have always said that I would NEVER go on a diet that did not include bread, because I love bread. But it was a necessity and has been easier than I thought. When you go Gluten Free you have to cut out everything that has Wheat, Barley, Rye and Whey. That means bread, pastas, creamy soups, cereal , some ice cream, some soy sauces, some alcoholic drinks, etc. There is a lot of things that contain wheat, so I have to read the labels carefully. It has been a month, and I have to say that I feel so much better. No GI distress, more energy, no headaches. So overall a lot better, and worth it.
This lifestyle change has also encouraged me to research more about the food we eat, the vitamins we need and why, and have started cooking more.
Here is some of the food that I have made recently:
Rolled oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, brown sugar, butter and honey, apple and dried cranberries.
Jalapeno Poppers with Chicken
Jalapenos. Chicken Thighs (less expensive, more tender), and low fat Cream CheeseCorn Tortilla; red, yellow and orange peppers, black beans, and Avocados.
I also added Turmeric, it is a natural anti-inflammatory. It turns the foods yellow but it has very little taste.
I'm eating a lot more fresh fruit and veggies, preparing my meals at home, and choosing meat and eggs that are grain fed, no antibiotics, and are cage free. It may cost a little more, but it is so much better for me and the kids. We have also planted a garden and have three tomato plants.
