So I have gone through another rite of passage as a mother! This past week, my spring break no less, Haylee got the stomach flu bug. Good times had by all!
Here's the story:
I recognized that she was being rather whiny and didn't want anything to eat. As we were sitting on the couch she just wanted to be cuddled, something that doesn't happen often. I felt her head and realized she was a little warm but nothing significant. Within moments, she got sick. As this is happening you go into mother-mode and realize you can't get up or move her until she is done. You just have to sit there and allow her to get sick on you. That in itself deserves a medal of great parenting.
When she was done I took her into the bathroom and set her in the tub. I turned on the water even though she still had her pants on. She looked at me and then at the water and said "nak-ed, nak-ed," as if she understood that she need to take her pants off before she could have a bath.
During the bath I called both Ryan and my mom. I don't mind her getting sick, it's just the first time she has been sick like thisso I was a little anxious. They both reassured me she was fine. After 10 mintues without incident I got her out of the tub. She was cold but I didn't want to put on any clothes in case she got sick again, so i ran into her room grabed a robe, and right when I walked in she started saying, "No, no, all done, all done." And I knew what that meant, but before I could grab the trash can, the flood gates opened! During one of the rounds of getting sick Bella got too close and got covered (sorry if that is too much for some readers!) So again I'm just standing there, trying to reassure her that everything will be alright, thinking to myself how impressed I am with my ability to remain calm and deal with vomit.
I threw her back into the tub and again called my support team, Ryan and my mother! My mother attempted to add humor and tell me how this is a rite of passage for parents, and that Haylee won't realize all the things I went through until she has children of her own. Which made me think, that means my mom is finally having a laugh because I'm expereincing exactly what she went through with me! It's funny how eveyrthing you dish out comes back to you at some point--that including vomit!
Well all three of us ladies (Haylee, Bella and I) got cleaned up, and Haylee was good the rest of the night and following day. The illness left as quickly as it came. But just in case it didn't go away her bed was covered in towels, and I had trash bags and cans near by. In fact, when i thought she was going to get sick again I placed the trash can underneath her, well she thought that was cool. She then started asking for the trash can, and fake coughing into it; she would then nod her head and say "better?" She's so funny! So for all those parents out there, you're time is coming if it hasn't already! The joys of parenting that no one tells you about! :)
Trash can is close by, though at that point when
she did have coverage, she was done getting sick!
