A little Louisiana Flavor

After spending two days with Tabitha and Cort in Pineville, we traveled down to Baton Rouge for the following 2 days. We decided to take in some local culture and destination spots. When you're in Louisiana you have to go see "som' gators!" So we had heard good things about this location, and it was the closest. I'll admit that I usually don't like these types of places, as I feel they abuse their animals for profit. However, after hearing the tour guides speak about their quest to save the swamp lands and the animals that inhabit them, I grew to really appreciate their passion.

The two men who own this tour were roofers, who discovered that all the recent million dollar houses they were roofing were being built on swamp land. They realized that the last big swamp in the area was being bought up to be developed. They went to the state and had investors to buy the land to preserve it in it's natural condition. They teach the people on the tour about the importance of the area and how it is disappearing. It was a very informative and fun trip. The guys were not only very knowledgeable, but really funny.

Us northerns were melting, when the tour guides noticed, he joked that we should stay around till august and see how hot it gets then! Uh, no thanks!

Prior to the boat trip they took us to a bridge where several HUGE gators were.

Sophie did really well considering it was blazing hot, and she was developing a heat rash! I know, what great parents we are! :)

She even got into the whole nature thing!

But maybe a little too close...
It wasn't my idea!!!

Yeah, I know what a manly man I have married!

Yep that's right, it's a huge rat holding a dum-dum sucker.

I have always thought that Spanish Moss was so beautiful.

We toured the swamp close to sunset it was really pretty
